Location & Transportation

The 2009 IUPS Teaching Workshop will be held at the Nichii Gakkan Kobe Port Island Center located on Port Island, an artificial island, at Kobe Harbor. Click here to see a map of this area. This facility will provide meeting rooms, meals and limited accommodations for participants.

Bus transportation from Kyoto to the Kobe Port Island Center (about 2-2.5 hours) will be provided for participants. Buses will leave the IUPS Congress Center in Kyoto on August 1 at 19:30 following the close of the IUPS 36th World Congress. Baggage may be left at the Congress Center that day to be retrieved at the exit for the buses. A Bento box meal will be provided on the bus. Family members traveling with participants can be included in the workshop transportation arrangements if indicated on the registration form.

Nichii Gakkan Kobe Port Island Center, on Port Island, is a two-minute walk from the Port Island Minami Station on the Portliner, an automated loop monorail/train which connects “downtown” Kobe  (Sannomiya) with the Port Island. Click here to view all the stops on the Portliner monorail loop.

At the close of the workshop on August 4, participants and others will need to find their own transportation to their next destination. All forms of transport including air (both domestic and international airports), local and bullet trains, and highway can be conveniently accessed from the Port Island Center.
